Are you a teen looking for therapy? We wrote this page to help parents and guardians; check out this page for information about counseling made just for you.

There’s a reason our society often describes teenagers as angsty and dramatic. It’s hard to be a teenager and it’s also hard to be a parent of a teenager.

Most teens who start therapy feel lost in life on some level, unsure of how to find their way. Perhaps you can see their pain when they run off to school or you feel it as they snap at others more sharply than ever before. Maybe your days start to blur together or your conversations go nowhere.

Stuck in negativity and feeling worried all the time, you may feel like life is exhausting.

Do any of the following resonate with you?

  • you’re scared you’ve ruined your kid
  • you feel like you can’t connect
  • you’re worried about what they are thinking
  • …and what they are doing

If these sound true for you, we want you to know that even if you are really struggling, nothing is wrong with you. What you are experiencing is normal and its okay to ask for help.

You don’t have to do this alone. You’re not supposed to be worried all the time.

How Counseling with your Teen Works

Teen Counseling consists of 60-minute, one-on-one sessions that help them work through their concerns. In addition to listening, their therapist will share thoughts when it’s helpful and provide guidance based on their experience. Here’s how it will work step-by-step:

1. First, their therapist will provide a safe, accepting space so that they will feel comfortable sharing their struggles with them.
2. With your teens permission, their therapist will reach out to you for additional details regarding their needs and what you hope they are able to gain with counseling.
3. Their therapist will listen to your teens story and gain a great understanding of their challenges.
4. Next their therapist will focus on immediate concerns like managing big emotions and getting through school.
5. Their therapist will work together with your teen (and you whenever possible) to discover what their goals are in therapy and in life.
6. Over the course of sessions, your teen will start making progress towards a fulfilling future.

Research shows that counseling can positively change teens’ thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. It can help them step into their power.
